Comments about Lowrance KEEN Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoes, Slate:
These are nice looking and functional shoes. They are the slightest bit short for a size 11, but it really is almost too minor to mention. These are useful for everything from trail walks, barbecues, and casual Fridays.

Comments about Lowrance KEEN Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoes, Slate:
These shoes were comfortable right out of the box and after I installed Shock Doctor Ultra 2 insoles I have to say they're the most comfortable shoes I had in quite a while. I use them on daily walks over mostly rough terrain. The waterproofing is outstanding and the fit alleviates my plantar fasciitis. My only complaint is that for a waterproof shoe they can be dangerously slippery under certain conditions. I took a digger recently on my water covered deck just walking normally. Other than the soles, these are great shoes. Invest in some Yaktrax if you plan on using them in snowy/icy conditions. I took Keen's suggestion and ordered 1/2 size larger and the fit is right on the money.

Comments about Lowrance KEEN Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoes, Slate:
I first tried a size 10.5 and found the shoe too tight in the front. I returned these and tried a size 11. This felt fine in the front but was too roomy in the heal. The sales person showed me how to mold the heal area so it was snug on the sides but there was still a gap at the back of the heal. It was wearable however. Then it rained and I found moisture getting into the front of the shoe. I tested it further by running water from the faucet in my tub over the front part of the shoe. The shoe became soaked inside. I tried the same faucet test with another shoe I own with a gortex membrane. This shoe remained dry inside. I have returned the Targhee, about which I am not so KEEN.

Comments about Lowrance KEEN Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoes, Slate:
I have a like-dislike relationship with these shoes. I like them because they provide excellent protection for your feet when walking on rocky trails. The soles have the right amount of stiffness and the toe box is heavily armored to protect your feet while hiking on trails with jagged rocks. The waterproof Keen Dry membrane does its job on the wettest of trails and yet allows good breathability. Lastly, although these shoes don't come in wide sizes the shoes seems be to a little on the wide-ish side. Something I appreciate.
What I don't like about these shoes is that I've gone through 3 pairs in 3 years. The soles delaminated on the first pair and the inside fabric wore out near the heal on my second pair. EMS has good customer satisfaction policy so I didn't pay for the last two pairs. I'm estimating these shoes failed on me at the 250-350 mile mark. Maybe fewer. Wet rock traction is so-so. I'd rather have a pair of shoes that I have to replace every other season but stuck like glue on slippery, slimy rock.
The bottom line, I've stuck with these shoes because of their great waterproofing, good stone protection, and wide-ish sizing.
The picture was taken in 2001 on the West Coast trail in Canada. A trail known for its wet, muddy conditions.

Comments about Lowrance KEEN Men's Targhee II Hiking Shoes, Slate:
Bought these back in March. This is the first time I have had an opportunity to climb a mountain with them. The traction is extremely disappointing.
I hike alone and can not see myself hiking in these due to the lack of confidence they inspire. (I slipped on almost horizontal rock and dropped and smashed my phone- so lets see that's $120 plus $100 for the phone insurance deductible.)
I like these shoes for around town, they are very comfortable. But, that is not what I bought them for.
