Basic product, I wish it was the same shape the fly not just the tent itself. True it would be a little bigger and heavier, but at least I would have a dry spot on the ground to leave my gear. The fly keeps rain from landing on it, but if the ground saturates enough or its a low spot your stuff can still get wet.
Setting up the fly as a rain cover with the footprint is only optional IF you remove the Jakes feet from the tent first.
Worth the extra couple dollars to help protect your tents floor from sticks, rocks and water etc...
