Comments about STOHLQUIST Contact Fingerless Gloves:
I've used these gloves in warm-weather rivers, brisk creeks, inconstant seas, & against-current workout paddles. They've performed very well & have stood up to more than i thought they'd be able to handle. The palm skin really does give a natural feel on the paddle & allows for a good hold without being too grippy (good for feathered paddles). Most of all, I love the ingenious, practical, & obvious (why don't other manufacturers incorporate this?) inclusion of a terry-backed index finger. Nothing says "ouch!" like a bead or two of sun screened logged sweat in the eyes! This simple feature takes care of that in the most unintrusive way. Also, the offset seams are a comfort on 6hr or tight-gripped paddles.
The only drawback I see is fit. I find the palm & the wrist a bit baggy. While somehow the palm doesn't bunch up, the wrist cuff is just slack wide open & water pours right on in. Nothing a simple bungee or velcro fastener wouldn't have taken care of. I'm surprised Stohlquist left this feature out. I tried sizing down, but then circulation to my fingers was cut off.
Leave these at home for anything below 50 degrees (unless you enjoy white-knuckling it) or just keep 'em in a pocket just-in-case. These gloves are super compact.
