Comments about SEATTLE SPORTS Hydrostar Multistrobe Light:
I used to use this on one of my kayaks for night paddling until the flimsy suction cup failed. I use other brands (Innovative Lighting and Scotty )on my kayaks for now . I'll probably use it again if I can get a replacement cup at a reasonable price. The lanyard is a good feature to have when the suction cup breaks suction. My version has the discontinued red/green "bow light" option - I think the current version has the red/red in addition to the other white light selectionsThis product has an optional Hydrostar Extension Pole [...]. This pole appears that would elevate the light over the head of most people for improved visibility. They appear to have changed the color from orange to yellow. This would be a very good product if the suction cup was more durable. A replacement cup does not seem to be readily offered by on-line dealers such as EMS or by Seattle Sports.

Comments about SEATTLE SPORTS Hydrostar Multistrobe Light:
As others have commented, the suction cup wears out very quickly. I will not buy this again and urge others not to do so.

Cons
- Clunky roatary switch
- Dim
Best Uses
- Casual kayaking
- Light recreational use
Comments about SEATTLE SPORTS Hydrostar Multistrobe Light:
The light output is nowhere near what USCG requires for nighttime boating. The 9 LEDs only shine forward, so in the case of this unit, outwards from the end. That means if this light is hooked to your PFD or mounted on your boat's deck, the optimal visibility angle is directly overhead. Fine for heli-rescue, but lousy for other boats.
Unfortunately, at the time of this review (May 2010), EMS does not stock a better strobe for kayakers.
Pros
Cons
- Difficult To Attach
- Not Functional
- Too short even with pole
- Wears Quickly

Comments about SEATTLE SPORTS Hydrostar Multistrobe Light:
As the others have mentioned, the light output is mostly in a wrong direction and the suction cup wears out very quickly, less than a year with light use for me. I bought the pole to get the light above my head but it is not quite tall enough. The mounting bungee cords with the pole don't hole the pole upright. I used cord to mount the light and the plastic tie rings broke off.
The only good thing about this light is that it is still running on the original batteries and the electrics work well. Everything else about it is not really workable. When I contacted SEATTLE SPORTS about it they offered to refund my money, but they didn't seem interested in fixing the design.

Merchant response: We’d suggest returning or exchanging your Multistrobe Light with us if it doesn’t suit your needs. Call us if you need assistance in doing so at 888-463-6367. The Hydrostar is specifically designed for kayaking in open waters at night. It is a 360 degree light and can be seen from the surface as well as the sky. The only requirement for kayaks in open waters at night to meet Coast Guard requirements are: wearing a Type III PFD, carrying a noise making device and carrying a flashlight that can be directed at any boat that might be on a dangerous course toward the kayak. You can improve upon these requirements of course and the Hydrostar Multistrobe Light would be considered a marked improvement by most. That said we understand this light is not working for you, so please let us know if we can help in any way.
