Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

They changed these pants for the worse. There was a red hammer loop in the little leg pocket, not it is gone. The waist used to have a stretch element to it, a red band sown into it, it is now gone.

My guess is that the profit margins got to slim for their liking so they had to find a way to use less material.

Less pant for the same money. not worth the price tag.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

I would highly recommend these pants. This purchase is actually the 4th pair I've bought. One disappointment is that some nice small details were eliminated on this pair. I think my prior purchases were around a year ago. Red accents on one belt loop, a red tool loop, and red piping in the waistband are all gone now. Just seems like cheapening them up. Still great fit and sytle - just nice as nice overall.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

This will be my second pair of Fencemenders, and they are the best pants I have ever owned. Done tree work, yard work, land clearing, and 15 mile backpacking trips in these. I bring them fishing, into the woods, and into school. Pockets are perfect for everything and anything. If you do serious outdoor activity, you need a pair of these!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

Bought these too work outside. They're great, well designed pants EXCEPT they are too short! I'm 6' with a 32" waist and the 32" inseam is really about a 30". They need to lengthen the inseam to a true 32 or offer a 34". That would make these pants amazing!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

I bought a pair of these pants 3 years ago and have worn them nearly every day, since. Aside from fading that you would expect they have held up great. They are just barely starting to fray at a seam on the crotch. The only other wear is at the bottom of the pants where they've rubbed on the ground and my knife pocket from repeatedly clipping/unclipping my folding knife on the pocket seam.

I would not say they're great for any real hiking (cotton kills) but I've worn them on a day hike or two and they're comfortable enough, and flexible. I also wore these working as a dog walker for a year and they held up to repeated jumping dogs and a Denver winter.

When I bought them I probably bought a size too small, 30 vs 32, but the length was good - suspect they are "short" but don't recall. I just recevied my second pair in 32 regular(32) and man they are comfortable, but now they seem a bit too long. So, I ordered 2 more pairs in 32 short (30) and hopefully they'll be perfect.

It does seem the red band on the inside waist is gone but it's hardly noticeable and does not seem to impact the quality or comfort. They still have the red hammer loop and reinforced red belt loop, but I bought these again for their durability and comfort. Solid pants.

I've worn these pants to work several times now and I love them. They are super comfortable and the stretchy material flexes and keeps them from binding. Awesome pants!

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Men's Fencemender Pants, Inseam Options:

This is the second pair of these pants that I have bought. My first pair was back in the good ol' days when they had the red detail around the waist, but the new less decorative model are just as good if a little less colourful. I've worn these pants for daily use at work as well as fall and spring hiking. They're thick and durable so hiking through bushes or over rocks isn't going to lead to any tears. They also provide a good bit of warmth and wind protection. I've worn these on hikes in the 20s and been ok. These are easily the best pants I've ever owned and I'm only getting a new pair because (as will all pants) I eventually wore through the crotch (although they outlasted my levi jeans by about 3X.

My one complaint is that the new model also seems to run a bit baggier. My new pair is the same size as the old pair, but has a lot more material around the butt and thighs.

                    Pros:
                    Durable
                    comfortable
                    deep pockets
some insulation and wind protection due to thickness.
                    Cheap

                    Cons:
New model has different proportions in legs and butt.
