Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes, Brindle:
I have hiked in the regular siren sports for going on four years. I finally decided to get a pair of the gore-tex for winter hiking. I was unbelievably disappointed in these shoes. First off, I had to return the 8's and get a pair of 8.5's, as Merrell used the exact same footbed and then added the gore-tex, making the shoe a half size smaller than listed. When I finally got a pair that fit, it was the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever put on my feet that didn't have a 3 inch heel. I am well aware that gore-tex is stiff, but this was ridiculous. The tongue was so rock-hard that it left indentations and bruises in the front of my ankles after 2 hours of wear. You can't even get them to bend with your hands. Way to ruin a good product, Merrell..

Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes, Brindle:
Tried these out on a leisurely hike just after several days of rain. I was very pleased with how lightweight they are in comparison to my old shoes. The overall shoe is stiff but seemed to break in quickly with no discomfort. My left foot fell into two good mud puddles and these shoes really did their job. My foot stayed dry and the shoe quickly cleaned off. I was impressed. I also stepped upon some wet rocks and maintained good traction. I ordered my normal size but had to exchange for a 1/2 size larger in order to accommodate thicker hiking socks. Having the combination of Gor-Tex and Vibram soles for this price is also a bonus.

Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes, Brindle:
Ordered online, found that one shoe bothered her foot, brought it back to the store. Where the shoe "expert" readjusted the bothersome shoe and gave great tips on different ways to tie the laces. Probably some of the best customer support I've every had, thank's to the folks in Salem Ma store! She wore them all weekend, throught the White Mountains with no issues.

Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes, Brindle:
EMS went above and beyond. Bought Garmonts and hated them. EMS took them back even after I had worn them. I love these shoes. I have a narrow foot and tried on many pairs and these are perfect. Can't believe how dry my feet are even after a wet hike!

Comments about MERRELL Women's Siren Sport GTX Hiking Shoes, Brindle:
I feel like this should get a 4.5 properly. I love the regular Sirens so for working at a camp this past summer, I decided on these ones. Best choice ever! They kept my feet dry on days that would have left most shoes feeding foot fungi.
My only problems with these: they seemed to wear out a little quicker than my regular Sirens, they were stiffer than the others, but quickly packed out so it was alright, and after I wore these through a torrential downpour, they seem to have lot their water resistance.
Other than that, these are fantastic shoes with brilliant arch and ankle support. I have low arches and standing around for long periods of time tends to hurt my lower back, but not in these! I use them for absolutely everything!

Merchant response: First let me say our first priority is your complete satisfaction with your Eastern Mountain Sports® purchase. If you are dissatisfied for any reason and have your original store receipt or web invoice, we will exchange the item in question or provide a full refund. If you do not have your receipt you may be eligible for merchandise credit that can be determined by a Store Manager or by sending the item in to our Returns Department. Our Return Policy and instructions for making returns can be found here.
Concerning the addition of Goretex, we feel something else must be different as a Goretex membrane is less than a millimeter thick and is very soft, it does not add any stiffness to a shoe (or jacket, etc). We will continue to monitor any feedback from customer’s regarding these shoes!
