I have a job which requires that I walk for most of the day, both indoors and out. In my spare time, I help friends with yard work and walk quite a lot in urban, suburban and rural settings. I am active in all sorts of weather.
I have worn this hat in heat, in blazing sun, in wind and in rain and it has performed very well. The size and shape of the brim shade very well, the crown breathes and makes it comfortable in heat and the fabric is very water repellent. The chincord is very cleverly designed and effective. I love hats and I think that this one will be a keeper.
My only caution is that, while it holds up well in rain, it might not withstand a long, raging downpour by itself - in that case have an umbrella handy.

use hat for protection and shade hiking the AT in training for Inca Trail and Machu Picchu; after you get used to the neck straps - they need to be carefully adjusted for comfort if you are sweating hard - the hat is great

I've always hated wearing hats, but this one doesn't bother me. Does a great job of keeping the sun off my head and keeping me dry when it rains.
