      broken zipper

      By K-dog

      from Boston, MA

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Women's Thunderhead Jacket:

I have only had this jacket for a year, and the zipper is broken, so I can no longer zip it up. I love that it's waterproof, but frustrated that I paid [$] for a coat I can no longer zip.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Women's Thunderhead Jacket:

i really like this jacket, especially the color and weight. i would normally get a size M, but had to get a size L because the arms were running short for me. this happens to me a lot with ems products. sleeves tend to get a little condensation on the inside when it is raining too, but overall a good product.

I have had this jacket for two years and it was great at first, but then the inside started to get delaminated and was flaking off everywhere. The zipper also started to not stay zipped. Not worth the money.

Comments about Eastern Mountain Sports EMS Women's Thunderhead Jacket:

I have had this jacket for 3-4 years and have used it
on many hiking, biking and other various activity adventures and it
did its job. However, I went out into my back yard recently to get
something from my shed, was outside a total of TEN minutes (max) in a light rain, to cover a generator with a tarp and the entire inside of the coat was
coated in moisture. To the point that water was dripping down from
all of the inside fabric. I contacted EMS reps and was told this:

"I'm not sure what your yard work entailed, but the
waterproof/breathable fabrics will "wet out" next to your skin if you
are working up a good sweat. The fabric is best at allowing water
vapor (so body heat) to escape. If you start to sweat and that
moisture is actually beading up on your skin then the jacket can't
keep up with that kind of moisture production so the inside of your
jacket will definitely get wet from your own sweat.

Please let us know if you're able to stop in! If you cannot get to a
store we'll have to work out a mail in return for you which will take
a bit longer, but still allow us to see the jacket and assess what the
issue might be so we can find a resolution for you."

This is after already informing them that I had only been outside a
total of 10 minutes and that I have had the coat for a number of
years. I find it slightly condescending to explain to a customer
that tells you they have backpacked and biked in it how the moisture
          and "wet out" works.
LIke I told them If I start working up a sweat to
that extreme from covering something with a tarp, so much so, that it
should soak the inside of my coat with perspiration after 5 minutes and leave it dripping down the inside of my coat, I
will trade in all of my backpacking and sports equipment and check
          myself into the nearest hospital.

I had been a loyal customer for many years and have spent lot's and
lot's of money on their products and never once complained nor had a
problem but feel that I was sort of just of patted on the head and
told to bring in it in so they could evaluate where I might be getting
confused on how the "wet out" and water vapor works and hopefully they
could work out a resolution for me. I feel pretty sure after a few
years the coating for waterproofing must start to break down in these
          jackets.
