All in all this is a great bag. It's well-made and tough as nails. I use it most frequently as a checked bag for air travel. It stands up to the abuse dished out by airline baggage handlers. The backpack straps are nice. Two drawbacks - it's not cheap and it's smaller than you'd think a "large" sized bag would be. I recommend going with the XL

I wish the military would issue XL Base Camp duffel instead of our top load duffel(sea bag) or the A-bags we get issued. We would require the XL due to our excessive amounts of military gear and clothing etc.
