Bought for 3-week trip to Turkey with several hikes. Perfect for this. I did wear around the house first, and then took long walks, but no break-in needed.

Comments about SALOMON Men's XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Shoes, Swamp:

My first time wearing these I took a chance and did an 8 mile loop up to camels hump in vermont, I had no signs of hotspots or blisters afterward. Nearing the bottom I decided to stop IN a small brook. Standing in about 2.5 to 3 inches of water, my feet stayed dry. I'll see how they hold up, but so far so good!

I like Salomon footwear, but they seem to run small. Also are real tight 2-3" above toes.

Comments about SALOMON Men's XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Shoes, Swamp:

My first use of these outstanding shoes was to climb Mt Osceola East and Mt Osceola Main peaks, two of the 48 4,000 footers in the New Hampshire White Mountains. The terrain on the Greeley Pond Trail is pretty harsh with a good amount of technical climbing up the 2.5 mile very steep trail. These shoes were made for Spiderman. The grip was awesome. The cord tightening lace system felt more comfortable than my snowboard boots and make my foot feel like it was secure. No fatigue after the 7 mile total hike and on the first full hike! I did overtighten the right shoe half way up which did lead to some rubbing on my heal, but since I didn't tighten the left shoe as much I did not get the same rubbing. Just don't overtighten these and you'll be fine. We walked through shallow creeks. No water penetration at all. The neoprene achilles tendon protector on the heal is nice too. Although the price was steep, I feel these are definitely an outstanding value for the price and I no longer feel any regret whatsoever. I look forward to many years of use!

Comments about SALOMON Men's XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Shoes, Swamp:

I hike regularly, and these are the perfect day hikers. They are cool enough with light wool, and with a sock liner can be worn in the winter. Gore-Tex keeps feet dry, and the tie less lacing system keep the elements out of the shoe. I hike on sand dunes a lot and that is very importent. Shoes were broken in right out of the box. Midsole seems sturdy. Overall, best pair of shoes I've owned.

Comments about SALOMON Men's XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Shoes, Swamp:

Love these so much I bought a second pair just to have as a backup when these wear out some day. I bought these for use on the AT, which I plan to hike a portion of in the spring. I did it to break them in, but it was really not necessary to buy them that early. A couple day hikes and they are fully broken in. They are like running shoes with support. I have not tested how water resistant they are, but the goretex does seem to let them breath out well, as my feet stay dry even after a long hike.

Comments about SALOMON Men's XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Shoes, Swamp:

This is the best trail running shoe I have ever owned. Have tried on Salomon shoes before and found them to be too big for a given size and too wide but this shoe is very true to size. Gore-tex element is great - don't worry at all running through mud. Shoe is a little stiff but that is also fine for me when running trails. High top plus heel counter provides feeling of security running trails.

these boots are great EXCEPT they have poor traction on wet surfaces such as stones, and leaves. I dont know why, but they dont grip at all. I still wear them quite a bit.. day hikes and backpacking. and around the yard. they are very comfortable
