Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
Disclaimer: I love the Salomon last. I've tried just about every maker, and they're the best for me.
This is a good all-around boot for dayhiking or backpacking. I hike in the Grand Canyon, so I need really tough boots. I doubt these will be durable enough for more than two seasons, and I'm not sure they'll last two. Salomon has clearly been getting into the trail-running market and out of the serious backpacking market, to my grief. But meanwhile you can take these anywhere, as long as you realize their life is likely to be limited because they're not all-leather.

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
Great fit, great support and love the lace-locking mechanism. I have a narrow heel and wide forefoot, with a high arch.
The only problem for me is that they are too warm for temps higher than 5C - I've had to buy a different brand for the summer. While I adore these boots, sweaty feet make for bad blisters on day-long hikes - never a good thing.
I would also add that this is the only brand where I'm a size 7.5 instead of my usual 8, so they do run a half size bigger.

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
I got a size larger than my regular shoes, wore them around the house with two pair of my usual winter hiking socks, and they felt great. I think they are keepers. Loved my last two pair of Salomon hiking boots, too.

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
I purchased these boots and wore them for a 7 day section of the Larapinta Trail in the Australian outback. I only wore them once or twice before going on the trail and did not have any major issues. (My heels got a little bit raw with alot of uphill climbing but once I applied some sports tape, it was fine). They seemed to have good grip on lots of rock scrambles and challenging climbs. They're very comfortable and provided good support on a difficult trail. I also have wide feet and these were comfortable and didnt pinch my feet.
I did find the arches in the boot were too high and my feet would hurt after wearing them. I ended up putting in volume reducers below the insole which seemed to solve the problem.

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
I bought these for a trip to New Mexico - it had been 10 years since I bought a pair of hiking boots (the soles fell off my Merrells when I pulled them out of the closet for my upcoming trip, so it was time to retire them.) I've owned many, many pairs of Solomon ski boots, this was my first pair of their hiking boots - and I loved them.
I hiked through all kinds of terrain in New Mexico from the deep dune sands of White Sands National Monument to the wet streams of Gila National Forest, these boots were great. And, my feet were toasty in the 17 degree morning temps while camping - amazing. The temps soared to 65 during the days - but these were still comfortable climbing around on the lava rocks of Valley of Fires...I appreciated the ankle protection since the rattle snake warnings were everywhere.
I felt a little apprehensive that they were too big when they arrived(I think I tried on an 8 in store but ordered my normal size of 8 1/2)but they proved to be super comfy and no toe jamming as I went down hills.

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
I wore these boots right out of the box on a 39 mile hiking weekend. It rained for most of the hike, which caused many swampy area crossings- but my feet stayed dry and warm. I had no hotspots or blisters. These boots exceeded my expectations! They even stayed dry inside after I sunk calf deep into a few boggy areas- fantastic craftsmanship!!! Super comfortable, and super water-resistant!!!

Comments about SALOMON Women's Discovery GTX Hiking Boots:
I have narrow feet and my feet are not swimming in the boots. I even had to go down half a size. The laces feel secure and you can tighten them around the foot without making the ankles uncomfortable. I wore these for a 3-hour hike up and down Mt Monadnock (NH)without a single blister or discomfort-- also no sliding forward to the front. Cushioning was good. My only complaint so far is that the traction on slick inclines is just average. Can't say anything about wetness protection.
