i'm 6'3" but take a Medium pack due to my spine measurement. problem is i think i need large harnes because although i am a medium spine, my chest is about a 45 so the medium harnes doesnt seeem big enough. im a weekend warrior. this is my second pack, first being the EMS trail 70. i like how this years Baltoro has larger capacity. Im concerned that my pack is still too heavy. this is of course a function of various things. my tent, my sleep pad, etc. i am not an ultralight hiker. the pack empty feels about 7 lbs, indeed it does have a lot of pockets and zippers etc. my favorite feature is the detachable hood that turns into a hip sack. i set up camp and use this for day hikes to the peak, it also carries all my knick knacks for sitting around the fire instead of having to run back to my tent to get this or that, i keep all the stuff i use most right in that pack and walk around the camp site with it. the water bottle holder on one side is normal. the fold away holder on the other side is hard to reach when you have the pack on. i love the hip pockets for my camera, but i would like to see them get bigger so you can fit some trail mix and stuff.

Comments about GREGORY Baltoro 75 Backpack:

Being a old Soldier I have logged many miles in one size fits all Military packs.
This pack will be the last one I ever buy.I went to the N.Conway store and got fitted and browsed in the store with 40 lbs for a few hours. Not once did my neck or back get sore. And I have arthritis pretty bad in the back.
I found the zippers easy to use with gloves and there is ample room for a day hike or multi-day trip.I would have liked a few more pockets but that is only a minor complaint.
I recently climeb Mt.Chocorua with this pack and had no discomfort at all and the pack performed as I expected.I only wish the Military issued these packs. All in all a great pack and worth every cent best gift I ever recieved.

Comments about GREGORY Baltoro 75 Backpack:

The pack is comfortable and the shoulder straps and hip belt are padded perfectly. Although, for the money spent buying this bag, my 7 year old EMS pack (Summit 5500) still has some better features. The Gregory pack has no good organizational pockets. The pockets are just throw stuff in and that's it. The EMS pack had a pocket that had built in mesh holders, so it was good for separating items into specific groups of like items (ie. medications, headlamp and batteries). The Gregory pack has no place to attach your water bladder hose so it just flops around by the shoulder strap. There is also no hook or strap to secure the bladder in the pocket (inside the pack). I had to tie a length of nylon rope between the upper part of the frame so I could clip the bladder to it, to keep it from collapsing in the pocket as water was drank.

Basically, comfort wise it was really really good. The little technical things (described above) that are missing from the pack's design annoyed me on my trip. After reading all kinds of reviews about how great Gregory packs are, I was very disappointed with this pack. Sadly, it was the little things missed that killed the pack.

Comments about GREGORY Baltoro 75 Backpack:

I selected this pack for week-long backpacking trips. I picked this pack over several comparable brands and models because it has more external pockets and external gear attachment points. It also has a detachable top to double as a fanny-pack for side trips. My last pack was an old Dana Designs Arcflex Astralplane which I loved, but wore-out. The Baltoro has many comparable features that I wanted in a replacement pack. The suspension and belt are very comfortable with a heavy load, important for four-season camping. The only downside I found so far is that the outer pouches consume internal body volume like a trouser pocket, rather than only external volume, like a cargo pocket. Overall, it' a great pack for the price.
