I'm a runner and purchased this for my long runs. It's really light and the chest strap holds it solidly against my back, so there's no bouncing. I've used it on four long runs now and by the second run didn't even have to break stride to get hydration. Also, I haven't noticed it being hot on my back at all.
The pack has a clip on the right shoulder strap for the mouthpiece (so it doesn't bounce) and is easiest to operate with your left hand. I have only used water in it and haven't experienced any biological growth in the pack. After every run, I rinse the bladder (with water) and hang up to dry.
One recommendation, fill the bladder completely, then drain what you don't want to carry. This way, there are no air-bubbles when you go to get a drink.
My complaints are that the two hard plastic "ears" used to assist in drying aren't intuitive (and still not sure I'm using correctly), and the zipper-pocket is pretty small. I can just barely fit a single key, and ID card, and an energy bar. Sometimes, I just rubber-band the bar to the outside of the pack.
Overall, this is a great buy and I would definitely buy this pack again. Good luck and happy running!
