Comments about SEA TO SUMMIT Pocket Trowel:

I used this on a 3-day backpacking trip I did on the Appalachian Trail near the Delaware River. It worked fine, does what it's supposed to do. If you're familiar with that area, the ground is extremely rocky but it held up just fine.In case you cant tell, the 'blade' portion of the shovel detaches and flips around to make it more compact. It locks really well in both positions, so it is kind of a hassle to assemble/disassemble. The handle has storage space for TP with an equally annoying to remove cap. Also another reviewer complained (without ever even using it?) that it's too fragile. It's not, it work's fine. The shovel does wiggle a little bit, but that's only because the front part detaches. It still digs a hole to [*]in. If there's tough ground, this device is much preferred over using your hands. Also it's called the iPood, and that's hilarious.

Comments about SEA TO SUMMIT Pocket Trowel:

I returned this without ever taking it on a hike. This is a great idea and is extremely light weight, but it feels very flimsy and locking/unlocking the handle as well as accessing the storage compartment is just annoying enough to make this not worth the price.

I am uncertain if this would break while digging a cat hole in the rocky New England clay, but my initial impression didn't build enough confidence to risk it. I'll stick with the classic and inexpensive orange shovel until some improvements are made on this.

Lightweight, and its collapsible feature allows for easy packing. There is also small storage space in the handle which I use to place some toiletpaper/napkins.

          • All around tool

Comments about SEA TO SUMMIT Pocket Trowel:

It is generally OK but really does not improve that much over lighter plastic models or sturdier steel ones. Also, the specification stated in the EMS description of this T6066-T6 Aluminum having a hardness of 70 on the Rockwell C scale is ridiculous; hardened steel tools rarely reach this level this is simply not possible with this material.

WOW. Great product. Store a little extra TP in the handle for emergencies. Handle packs back into trowel to make it incredible small. VERY nice product.

Comments about SEA TO SUMMIT Pocket Trowel:

The button release on this thing is SUPER difficult to press. Even with tools to assist with pressing the button, there were times I had to use another tool for the purpose I bought this shovel for until I learned to just leave it opened. Leaving it open defeats the purpose of buying something that can pack smaller. If you have nails that are the same length or longer than your fingers, don't even bother trying to use this item. Even with short nails and tools it was almost impossible. Hopefully the button will loosen with time?

If I knew what I know now when I was purchasing this, I would have just brought a garden spade.
