Great All-Around Snow Boot!

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

This is a good all-around boot. Some people have written than the older boots were higher quality and since moving manufacturing to Vietnam, the quality has dropped off. I don't find, however, there to be any quality problems. The boots are well-constructed and warm.

I use the boot as a general-use winter boot for walking in the snow, setting up snow camp, after skiing, etc. It is probably too heavy and not stiff enough to use as a backpacking boot; you should really use a mountaineering boot if you are carrying a load. However, for walking in the snow without a load, the boot is great. I have even used it for snowshoeing, though you need to make sure the bindings fit as the boot is quite large.

The traction on the boot is good, even on ice, and the large boot provides a good platform for balance. The only real drawbacks are 1) the boot is quite heavy and bulky (it needs to be because of the insulation), and 2) the lace up system is not really designed to do anything but keep the boot on and snow out of the top. It is not a technical lace-up system like a backpacking boot.

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

So I've had these boots about a month so my use has been somewhat limited so far. They have been to Jay Peak VT with great success and have not lost traction in very icy conditions.

I've worn these boots indoors as well and they're comfortable. I wouldn't attempt to drive with these boots on due to their size. (14's for me). They are wide enough to catch both pedals in a small car which is good if you're performing three-pedal downshifts but not so good for everyday driving.

Great boots

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

After using my Rocky cold-weather Army boots for 12 years, I finally moved to a "civilian" version. The boots were like ovens on my feet; comfortable, easy on & off, & good traction on the ice. However, they are heavy and not cut for active use. I ended up returning them and looking for a boot that would do better in winter sport activities. If I was a ski-lift operator, out snow mobiling, or any other sedentary cold-weather activitiy, these boots would be absolutely perfect.

Warm & lasts forever

By Dan the man

from Ipswich, MA

About Me Casual/ Recreational

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Durable
  • Great Traction
  • Non-slip sole
  • Stable
  • Water Resistant

Cons

  • minimal arch support

Best Uses

  • Cold weather
  • Day hikes

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

I use mine any time I am in deep snow or slush or on ice. Wide sole gives superb balance on ice. Walk thru deep puddles and stay dry. Extremely warm. Durable -- my first pair lasted 26 years.

The only con -- doesn't come in half sizes, so the fit is looser than most shoes. I solve by wearing thick socks.

Cons

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

Traction is great on these, very warm and comfy. I have a bit of a hard time getting in and out of them due to a very high arch, but that is expected. I have spent whole days outside with temps in teens and feet never got cold. Great for taking the kids sledding...

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

As one of Jehovah's Witnesses I go door-to-door in the winter. Paths and walkways are not always cleared of snow. These boots help me to continue in the ministry. They are a little bulky getting in and out of cars, but they keep my feet warm.

Comments about SOREL Men's Caribou Winter Boots, Buff:

I live in the snowbelt of Buffalo, NY and rely on warm dry clothing 4 months a year. I usually have 2 pair of this (or similar make) boot on hand. I wear a 8.5, ordered a 9 and they were huge. I returned them and ordered an 8. The entry is tight but fit once on. Tucking your pants inside is almost impossible. My advice try them on at a brick and mortar store before ordering.
