Basket Case Update

By Lambster

Comments about SWIX BC Tour XC Poles:

I wanted to update my previous review. I tried contacting Swix about replacement baskets. They don't respond to customers. However, the Manchester, CT. EMS store replaced them for me. Thank you.

Unfortunately, today I actually bent one of the poles trying to recover from a fall. I didn't hit anything with the poles when I fell and landed on my butt and backpack. I bent one of them while forcing myself upward. I was pretty surprised and disappointed. Even though I shattered my fiberglass pair a few weeks ago, which is why I bought the BC poles to begin with, I am going to replace these with the fiberglass.

Basket case

Comments about SWIX BC Tour XC Poles:

I have two sets: one for my GF, hers are already bent and just a year old; and mine, which I bought yesterday to replace a pair of fiberglass Swix that shattered. The first basket fell off and was lost 10 minutes into skiing and the second basket (after I made sure it was secure) was lost about 20 minutes later. Not really happy.

Comments about SWIX BC Tour XC Poles:

I lost the baskets during their first XC ski outing (only 1.5 hrs). They don't lock in well to the bottom and if you are skiing in wet or deep snow, expect to lose them. It's $10 for a replacement too. I lost the first one within a minute or two... the second came off after approx 45 minutes, while in 1 foot of snow. It was warming up, but the snow had been quite dry initially, so I don't think it was an extreme situation. I did find one of them, but ended up having to shell out $10 for the other. I'm wondering how many I should have on hand - at this rate, it's looking pretty bad. Better go with another brand where the baskets are secure.
