Comments about THE NORTH FACE Men's Ultra 109 GTX Trail Running Shoes, Shroom Brown/Yellow:

I usually wear Brooks walking and running shoes and I was looking for a shoe that could be used for day hiking in wet conditions and to wear around town. If I could run in it so much the better. Unfortunately Brooks doesn't make a shoe like this. Hence the North Face 109 GTX. It fits the bill on all counts. It doesn't look like a running shoe and it should be OK for wet terrain day hiking. I've only worn the shoe around the house and for a couple of short 3 mile walks but I think it will work for me. There's a slight bit of rubbing around the outside of my ankles on both shoes but it does not seem to be a problem. I can't comment on the Gore Tex liner as I haven't worn the shoes in the rain yet. Also can't comment on durability but the shoes look to be well made so I expect a reasonable amount of wear from them. I haven't tried running in them yet but that was not the primary reason for buying them. They seem a bit heavy for running. All in all a bit less comfortable than my Brooks but not uncomfortable. I usually wear a size 10.5 in a D width and the length and width are good on these.
