Comments about THULE 613 Pulse Alpine Cargo Box:

This is an upgrade for me, from the 2007 similar version of the long Thule box. Since '07 Thule has improved its latching mechanism (to the car) and also its locking mechanism, which were already pretty good, but now even easier to use and have less exposed metal, therefore less potential for corrosion. Installation is as simple as sliding the four latches to the right place around the roof rack cross bars, then turning four plastic knobs to tighten them in place. It's a one-person job, no tools required (I say this even as a small female - it's very manageable).

Regarding fit - the reason I upgraded boxes is my old one was set too far back for the hatchback on my 2011 Subaru Outback to open. Yet I need the long style of box to fit windsurf gear. I looked extensively online and found this particular box recommended by other users for compatibility with the mounting with the factory roof racks and hatchback placement of 2009-2014 Subaru Outback body style. I took measurements and it all seemed to fit. Once the box arrived, however, I found that it's an ALMOST perfect fit. At its furthest forward position it's still about an inch too far back. When the hatchback opens, the brake light cover and a small amount of the painted surface rub on the box. The hatch does open fully, but the rubbing damages the paint. I still believe that this is probably the best fit I can get for a long box on this car, due to how far aft Subaru places its factory rack crossbars. I'm also pleased with the quality of the box, which is even nicer than my old one. I'm keeping the box and I'm working on a solution of maybe applying a soft surface to the outside bottom edge of the box so the light rubbing of the hatchback will not damage the paint. I would recommend this box for transporting long cargo.

Comments about THULE 613 Pulse Alpine Cargo Box:

It is big, but it will do the job I need to hold 2 sets of skis and 2 snowboards, plus other stuff I don't want in the car after a day of riding. Attaching to my racks was very easy. Can be done by one person, but two makes it easier. Had it attached and ready to be road tested in 5 minutes.
