Below is a list of locations where programs are offered. All activities (unless otherwise specified) require advanced bookings to participate. Reservations can be made online where available, or by calling our main office at 800-310-4504.

This is a very popular option for those who wish to have personalized instruction, families with younger children, and larger groups such as camps, boy/ girl scouts, grade schools, town recreation department, social clubs, university outing clubs, military training groups, and others alike.

Boston Area, Massachusetts

Welcome to the Boston Area outdoor activities page. For those who live in or are visiting the Boston Area, we have a bunch of fun and informative trips and programs for all ages and abilities. Programs do require advanced bookings. Please check schedule of dates online by selecting an activity below. Trips and lessons are subject to cancellation for low enrollment or weather. To guarantee your climbing or paddling day please ask about private bookings.

Connecticut

Ragged Mountain Cliffs are a Connecticut gem and have been a popular climbing and hiking destination since the 1960′s when access was opened through trail construction. Ever since then people have been climbing in the Connecticut area, developing their skills, and pushing the sport to new limits. As climbing grows in popularity it becomes even more important to preserve the land for future generations. The Ragged Mountain Foundation (RMF) was formed to…

“maintain and preserve the Ragged Mountain property to ensure a balance for the conservation of a valuable natural resource with access for safe, responsible recreational use; to participate with recognized conservation organizations to further responsible recreational use; and to serve as an advocate for climbing access.”

Through this mission that have been able to secure fifty six acres of land which includes a nationally known climbing area and preserve access for climbers and hikers.

Lake Placid, New York

LAKE PLACID is most widely known for hosting two WINTER OLYMICS, 1932 and 1980. While remnants of OLYMPIC grandeur dot the landscape, most travelers journey to LAKE PLACID these days in search of far more reachable goals. Hiking, biking, rock climbing, ice climbing, kayaking and fishing are a handful of activities available today in the LAKE PLACID area. The population swells in the summer, winter and fall months as people leave the “real world” behind in search of peace and quiet in the picturesque ADIRONDACK MOUNTAINS.

Winter enthusiasts enjoy skiing at WHITEFACE MOUNTAIN located just outside Lake Placid. There are also miles of groomed and ungroomed Nordic trails for those looking to beat the crowds and head out on their own. In the summer travelers make camp in and around the Lake Placid area for hiking, biking, kayaking and climbing adventures. The ADIRONDACK LOJ is a popular destination for those looking for a rustic Adirondack experience. The lodge (as it stands today) was build in 1927 and is currently owned and maintained by the ADIRONDACK MOUNTAIN CLUB. If roughing it is not your thing, then check out the dozen or so high-end resorts around the Lake Placid area. Popular resorts include WHITEFACE LODGE, LAKE PLACID LODGE , and the HIGH PEAKS RESORT.

New Paltz (Gunks), New York

The town of New Paltz is located approximately 80 miles north of New York city and 70 miles south of Albany. The village of New Paltz is culturally rich and boasts many unique restaurants and shops on its steep and narrow main street. The town is home to STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK NEW PALTZ and welcomes 7,700 students each year from various cities in New York and other states. A few minutes drive from downtown New Paltz is the MOHONK PRESERVE. This private nature preserve is made up of 8,000 acres of mountain ridges, forests, fields, streams and ponds; and is one of New York’s largest nonprofit nature preserves with over 150,000 visitors each year.

The MOHONK PRESERVE is part of a much larger area called the SHAWANGUNK RIDGE (aka “THE GUNKS”). The GUNKS are world class climbing cliffs which draw thousands of rock climbers and BOULDERERS each year; in addition to HIKERS, MOUNTAIN BIKERS and those looking to enjoy the natural beautry of the park. The SHAWANGUNK RIDGE is a ridge of bedrock extending from northern New Jersey to the CATSKILLS MOUNTAINS. The ridge is widest (7.5 miles) near the Catskills in the north and most narrow (1.25 miles) in the middle. At a maximum height of 2,289ft (from seal level), the SHAWANGUNK RIDGE rises above a high plain to the east which stretches all the way to the Hudson River. The SHAWANGUNK RIDGE is made up of a quartz conglomerate making the exposed rock very hard and resistant to weathering. With an average height of around 150ft (maximum 300ft), it’s no wonder why the climbing areas in THE GUNKS are some of the best climbing in the world.

North Conway, New Hampshire

To outdoor enthusiasts, the White Mountains are synonymous with East coast climbing. Whether you’re climbing a classic route on CATHEDRAL LEDGE like THIN AIR, or braving extreme winds and cold temps on a February ascent of Mt. Washington; you are sure to have a fun and adventurous experience while visiting the White Mountains.

Our guides are all professionally trained and AMERICAN MOUNTAIN GUIDE ASSOCIATION (AMGA) Certified climbing instructors. Not only are our guides AMGA certified, but our Climbing School is one of the few programs in the country to be fully Accredited by the AMGA. Our equipment is checked and replaced on a regular bases, and we don’t charge you extra to use it. Programs are available year round and can be customized to meet your needs. Rhode Island

Rhode Island may be the smallest state with the longest name (State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations), but it makes up for it in miles of coastline. “The Ocean State” is a playground for water sport enthusiasts from sailors to surfers. Historic harbor towns such as Newport, Wickford and Bristol attract many visitors each year to take part in summer events and shopping.
